SOUTH BY SOUTHWEST BBQ 2010
It's another year of SXSW and another year of sharing homemade Texas style BBQ at Dave's house!
My first introduction to SXSW was back in 1996 when you could host bands in your house and get free tickets! Well, those days of waking up to a reggae band in your living room are long gone... Oh well... things change, but the love of music is still here in Austin and in my kitchen. For several years now I've been too poor to afford the tickets to SXSW, so each year I try hard to get on as many guest lists as I can, and in exchange I cook up a big ass bbq at my house for my favorite bands that are in town that week.
Over the past few years I've played host to the Wedding Present (UK), FM3 (China), Brain Failure (China) and Sedium (Austin), PK-14 (China), Car Sick Cars (China), - and I hope you can come this year!
What we usually do: - I go out and buy a bunch of good food (meat and veggies) - I cook it, grill it, fry it, steam it - it gets done. - you show up with drinks and snacks, we have a great dinner.
Why? Well, I was once in a band, a couple of them, and I know with all the glittz and glam of SXSW, some of you may just want to relax at a normal person's house and eat normal food for once. I like to hang out with bands and share stories, so that's why I started the SXSW BBQ. It's my way of giving back to the music community.
When is it? Usually on the 2nd to last or last day of the festival.
What time? Around 7pm.
Who will be there? No journalists, no crazy groupies, just me and whatever bands I decide to cook for.
Where? 11404 Gossamer Drive, Austin TX 78754 Google it HERE

Who is the host, this Dave guy? I'm from Austin, this is my hometown. I love it and I wouldn't trade it for anything, sorry, I've lived for many years internationally and I kept coming back home. I bought a house and now I teach high school physics, watch amazing sunsets, tinker with telescopes and hang out with friends around a campfire in the backyard. I love music and I love this town. Check out the rest of the site for more info about me... I think I smell the ribs cooking now, drop me a note and contact me for reservations, come friendly, come hungry.
